Graduation Money Lei
Because the grads love the money, another graduation idea for you this week: How to make a butterfly money lei out of money. I would have loved to have worn something like this on my H.S. graduation day! It's festive and fun, and it's money! What's more to love?
Sometimes I look long and hard at those origami animals and they just look so complicated, but not this one. Once you see how simple they are to make, you'll want to turn all the bills into butterflies.
How to make a Butterfly Money Lei:
To start, you'll need two bills per each butterfly (in the $$ amount of your choice).
Use the image below to follow along with this step by step:
1- Fold in all four corners of both bills.
2- Accordion fold both bills (back and forth folds).
3- With the two bills synched together in the center, secure them together with a twist tie.
4- Fluff out the four ends of the bills to look like butterfly wings.
5- Attach the butterfly to the ribbon or string of the lei
Dollar Bill Lei
You will want to start with crisp new dollar bills to make this money lei.
These are fun for a graduation lei, but they would also make cute cupcake toppers at a graduation party.
Money Lei DIY
We also added in some candy and ribbons to add some color and interest. These butterfly bills are tied onto an extra long white shoe lace. I like the idea of one long thing to drape over the front of the graduation gown than a circle lei that has to go over your head possibly messing up the hair of the graduate. I hope she likes it! 🙂
